Why we stopped at 120 mg
The energy drink category has spent fifteen years in an arms race over one number. We deliberately lost it.
The arms race
A standard energy drink used to be about 80 mg of caffeine. Then it was 160. Now a large share of the shelf sits between 200 and 300 mg per can, and a few push past that. The number went up because it is the easiest thing on a label to compete on — bigger sounds stronger, and stronger sounds like better value.
What it is not is a measure of how well the drink works.
What more caffeine actually buys you
Caffeine works by blocking adenosine, the molecule that accumulates through your waking hours and makes you feel tired. It does not remove that tiredness. It postpones your awareness of it, and the bill arrives later with interest.
Past a certain point, additional caffeine stops buying additional clarity and starts buying side effects instead: jitter, a raised heart rate, the shallow anxious edge that makes it harder to sit with a task rather than easier. The ceiling on useful alertness is a lot lower than the ceiling on how much you can physically drink.
The part nobody puts on the can
Caffeine has a half-life of roughly five to six hours in a healthy adult. That means a 300 mg drink at 2 pm still has around 150 mg circulating at 8 pm, and something like 75 mg at 2 am.
That is the mechanism behind the cycle most heavy energy drink users know well: a big afternoon dose, a compromised night of sleep, a worse morning, and a bigger dose to fix it. The drink that felt strongest is the one quietly making tomorrow harder.

120 mg at 2 pm leaves you around 15 mg by bedtime. That is the entire point of the number.
Where ours comes from
FOCZ uses caffeine from natural green tea extract rather than synthetic caffeine anhydrous. Chemically the caffeine molecule is the same either way — we are not going to pretend otherwise — but the extract carries other tea compounds with it, and it fits a formula built on natural ingredients throughout.
The other half: L-theanine
There is a reason FOCZ pairs caffeine with L-theanine, an amino acid found naturally in tea. The combination is one of the better-supported pairings in the whole nootropic space: L-theanine takes the sharp front edge off caffeine while leaving the alertness intact.
It is the difference between feeling switched on and feeling wound up. Alone, 120 mg of caffeine is a moderate dose. Paired properly, and sitting alongside 500 mg of Alpha-GPC and 70 mg of L-tyrosine, it does more than the number suggests.
Who should be careful
Caffeine is not for children, and it is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are sensitive to it, taking medication, or managing a heart condition, talk to your doctor first. Start with one can and see how you respond before making it a habit.
